The Power of a Reset: How to Refresh Your Routines Each Month
Life moves fast and if we’re honest, it’s easy for our routines to start running on autopilot. That’s why we love the idea of a monthly reset routine: a gentle, structured way to pause, check in, and start fresh.
Instead of waiting until a new year (or even a new season) to make changes, a monthly reset gives you twelve chances a year to realign your goals, declutter your space, and bring a little more peace and intention into your everyday life.
Here’s how to build a monthly reset that feels simple, restorative, and totally doable.
1. Reflect on the Past Month
Start your reset by looking back on last month. The focus is to learn from it, not to judge your past self.
Ask yourself:
-
What went well this month?
-
What drained my energy?
-
What am I proud of?
Use the reflection prompts and notes section in your Planner to jot down your thoughts. Writing things out helps you see patterns and celebrate small wins that are easy to overlook.
Pro tip: Add a “rose, thorn, and bud” check-in (one highlight, one challenge, and one thing you’re looking forward to). It’s quick, meaningful, and sets the tone for mindful growth.
2. Declutter and Reset Your Space
A clear space really does create a clear mind. Take a quick walk through your home or workspace and tackle small areas that have gotten cluttered like your desk, planner cart, or that one kitchen drawer.
Make this part of your monthly reset routine as simple as a 15-minute tidy-up. You don’t have to deep clean everything, just focus on the areas that impact your daily peace.
Use a page from a To-Do Pad to make a mini “refresh checklist.” You’ll feel accomplished as you check off each small task.
3. Revisit Your Goals and Habits
Monthly resets are the perfect time to look at your goals and habit trackers and make gentle adjustments.
Maybe one habit didn’t stick and that’s okay! Rather than seeing it as a failure, treat it as feedback. Ask: Was this goal too big? Too vague? No longer aligned with my priorities?
If you’re using a Vision Planner, review your goal breakdown pages and update your monthly intentions. You can also use the habit tracker at the front of all of our planners to monitor progress on new routines that matter most right now.
4. Plan Ahead (Softly)
Once you’ve reflected and refreshed, it’s time to gently plan for the month ahead. But remember: this is not about perfection, it’s about intentional direction.
Set 2 or 3 main focuses for the month, then sprinkle in smaller goals or reminders to support them.
For example:
-
“Simplify mornings” → prep outfits & lunches weekly
-
“Prioritize movement” → schedule three workouts each week
-
“Create calm evenings” → no screens after 9 PM
Use your monthly spread to map out key dates and goals, then transfer actionable steps into your weekly spreads for accountability.
5. Add Self-Care to Your Calendar
A monthly reset isn’t complete without checking in on your self-care routine. What practices helped you recharge last month? What do you need more of? Try scheduling at least one “me day” (or even an hour) every few weeks whether it’s journaling, taking a walk, or calling a friend.
Use Self-Care Stickers or washi tape/markers to intentionally plan moments that nourish your body and mind.
6. Celebrate Your Progress
Before closing your planner, take a moment to celebrate. Light a candle, pour some tea, and read through your highlights from the past month. Even if things didn’t go perfectly, you still showed up, learned, and grew and that’s worth celebrating.
Record your favorite memories or gratitude moments in your notes and to-dos coloumn for the month or dedicate a lined page in your planner as a “monthly wins” journal.
A Fresh Start, Every Month
Your monthly reset routine doesn’t have to be fancy or time-consuming. It’s simply about slowing down, taking inventory, and making small shifts that keep your life aligned with what matters most.
Each new month is a clean page and with your bloom planner by your side, you have all the tools to write your next chapter with clarity and purpose.
