How To Be Productive Outside of Work + School
Many of us feel a constant pressure to be productive and work as hard as we possibly can. We start to feel guilty for taking breaks and dedicating time to ourselves, or doing anything that isn't "productive." Sometimes being productive means checking off your to-do list, meeting deadlines, and staying on top of all your responsibilities. But other times, productivity looks like slowing down, taking care of yourself - both mentally and physically - and treating yourself with kindness and compassion.
Here are six ways to be productive that have nothing to do with work or school:
Sleep
Your body and brain need proper rest, and although we may think sleep is just a passive form of rest, it is actually one of the most productive things you can do. Being well rested will give you all the energy you need to feel good/energized, enjoy your day, and get things done!
Make Food For Yourself + Eat
Especially during busy days, taking time to cook and eat is the ultimate act of self care. Nourishing your body is a simple way to be kind to yourself and provide fuel for your happiest, healthiest life!
Create Something (Anything!)
Paint, doodle, bake, journal, cook, brainstorm a new idea, style a new outfit . . . the options are endless! It is so beneficial to use your imagination and flex your brain in a new way, plus it is so much fun!
Spend Quality Time with Friends and Family
Be intentional about spending time with people who lift you up and make you feel happy and grateful. Enjoy time spent with loved ones and dedicate time/energy/effort toward relationships that feel important/valuable to you. Taking care of important relationships so productive for maintaining long-lasting, meaningful connections.
Take Care of Your Space
Water the plants, tidy your room, light a candle, or make your bed extra cozy. Doing all the small things that make your space extra comforting, peaceful, and enjoyable is so valuable for your mental state and productivity.
Do Something Just Because You Enjoy It
Set aside time to have fun; Read a book, watch your favorite show, sit outside in the sun! These things are not a "waste of time" - they are productive simply because they are enjoyable to you and add extra happiness to your life!
It is SO productive and worthwhile to take time for yourself - to rest, to relax, to recharge, and to enjoy your daily life! The best version of you isn't overworked, tired, burnt out, and only focused on checking off your to-do list. The best version of you is balanced, well-rested, happy, mindful, and able to achieve your goals while taking care of yourself and enjoying life.
