10 Tips for Adjusting to Life at Home

We are currently adapting to a ‘new normal’ that many of us could not have imagined just a few weeks ago. Although many of us are confined to our homes, we can use this opportunity to make the best of a bad situation, rather than letting fear or anxiety in. We are using this time to reflect, emphasize kindness, and find peace.

1) Watch Feel-Good Movies

Is it just us, or do you feel like you never have enough time to just sit down and watch movies that you’ve been wanting to see for a while? Now is the time to put on a face mask, cuddle up in a blanket, sit on the couch, and enjoy some TV time! If you need a laugh, cry, or a big smile, check out our list of 15 suggested movies for these cozy at-home nights, here

2) Catch Up on Some Reading

Dust off that book that you bought months ago and have been meaning to read. Whether it’s a romance novel or a self-help book, reading every day can stimulate your brain, improve your focus and concentration, and expand your vocabulary!  You can even pick a book to read with friends and have a virtual book club to discuss your favorite parts! There are a ton of ways to be social from afar :)

3) Get Some Fresh Air

Now that it’s finally spring, it's time to enjoy the fresh air!  Open a window near your desk while you work from home, or take a few laps around a nearby nature path. Breathing in the fresh air helps boost your immune system, improve your heart rate, and even gives you more energy!

4) Do Some Yoga

It’s so important to take some time to clear your mind, pause your thoughts, and just focus on your mind and body. Even if you’ve never tried it before, there are tons of resources online to guide you! We personally love hooking up our computer to the TV and watching YouTube tutorials in our living room as we follow along. Either alone or with family, yoga is a great way to break up your day and focus on relaxing.

You can sign up for virtual online Yoga Classe at one of our favorite local studios, Truly Yoga! View more here

5) Organize

Now that we are spending a ton of time at home, it is so important to organize your space and make sure that it’s a peaceful environment. We are firm believers in the fact that your surroundings affect your mood dramatically. Happy spaces make for happy people! With this extra time: make your bed, dust, clean out your closet (transition it from winter to spring!), redecorate, and clean the bathroom! Light some candles, get to work and turn your home into your personal oasis.

6) Color

Who says coloring books are for kids? Coloring is a perfect way to focus your attention on one task for a chunk of time. Break out the crayons and start making art! It is such a successful feeling to work on something and see the finished product come to life. Download our FREE coloring book pages here

7) Let Your Creativity Flow

In addition to coloring, there are so many ways to be creative while you’re at home! Depending on what makes your soul happy, you can take photos, work on your graphic design (Canva is a great easy tool for beginners), watch videos of others being creative and get inspired (interior design or DIY), do a watercolor painting and so much more. Once your brain focuses on a creative task, so many more creative ideas will start flowing. There is a lot of fun to be had inside your home if you look in the right places!

8) Call Your Loved Ones

A phone call can be so powerful, especially in a time when we may not physically be able to see our loved ones. Call your mom, grandma, distant relatives, and best friends! They will really appreciate you checking in on them during this time and chatting for a while will take their mind off of any stress that they may be dealing with.

9) Discover New Music

Always find yourself listening to the same songs over and over again? Now is the time to branch out and discover all of the wonderful music that’s out there. We have a ton of diverse playlists on Spotify for you to check out. We even just made one specifically for chill vibes while working from home! Check it out here: http://bit.ly/BloomWorkFromHome

10) Learn Something New

Whether it’s an instrument, a language, or a TikTok dance, we can learn so much in our time at home! The internet has endless information to consume, so let’s take advantage of that and put our brains to work. That language you always wanted to learn? Start today! Even just a few words a day would be a huge accomplishment. On the other hand, you can become certified for free in skills like ‘Google Analytics’, so why not acquire a new skill and beef up your resume? Even for people who may feel like they have a good handle on life, there is always so much to learn!

xoxo,

the bloom team
