Featured #bloomgirl: Vinutha!

This month's featured #bloomgirl is Vinutha! She entered bloom's Cover Design Contest last year in 2016. We instantly fell in love with Vinutha's illustrations and we knew our #bloomgirl community would too! Vinutha's design was voted the winner of the contest and she got to see her City Dreams planner come to life! Since Vinutha won the contest last year, we have remained close and are so inpsired by Vinutha's energy, artistic skills, love of learning, and drive! Read a little bit more about her below!

Tell us a little bit about yourself!

I’m a 20-something Floridian who moved up to Massachusetts to attend dental school! While it took some time to adjust to differences in lifestyle between sunny, laidback Florida and busy, ambitious New England, I’m so glad I took this leap and am able to have this experience. What’s a better time to be in collegiate Boston, than when you’re a student surrounded by a sea of students?

Art has always been a big part of my life, but so has medicine. Dentistry has given me the opportunity to pursue a career that seamlessly combines artistry and science. Putting a smile on the faces of people I meet is so important to me and realized that both dentistry and illustrating give me the opportunity to do so!

What do you like to do for fun?

When I’m not at school or drawing, I love exploring the city and finding charming cafes with my friends. During holiday breaks, I can’t wait to get home or visit my sister in DC! A couple of my favorite things to do when I go home is enjoying the fresh early morning air on long walks with my Mom and going to brunch with my Dad. Recently, I had the opportunity to travel to Kenya with my family and hopefully have some fun trips coming up this year! I would absolutely love to travel more after school, there’s so many wonderful places and people in this world!

When did you first get into art and illustration?

I’ve always loved arts and crafts, when I was little you could always find me covered in marker, glue, and glitter. As I grew up the love for crafts turned into a loved for drawing and painting. While I took art classes in school, I never took private classes- instead I studied piano and classical Indian singing for several years and also pursued a black belt in Mixed Martial Arts (the coolest and possibility most out-of-character thing I’ve ever done!). I think it was sometime during high school that my love for fashion really bloomed and just starting becoming more and more a part of my life. I finally started my Instagram @illustrationbyvi during a gap year between undergrad and dental school!

Who or what is your biggest inspiration?

I find inspiration in everything and everyone! I feel that you never know when or what will inspire you. I love reading all kinds of books and I’m kind of magnet for random trivia (as my family and friends will attest to)! I’m also a bit of a Francophile and live vicariously through the blog of Carin Olsson of Paris in Four Months. Stateside, I love Julie Engel’s (Gal Meets Glam) classic femininity and Blair Eadie’s (Atlantic-Pacific) quirky chicness.

While I can sometimes be slow at new starting things and wary of change (I blame the Taurus in me), I feel that my drive comes straight from my family. My parents moved to the U.S. when they were a bit younger than I was in order to provide a wonderful life for their future family. When I hear about everything they went through, I cannot help but feel grateful but also the responsibility to do something good with all the opportunity they’ve provided for me.

What are your favorite bloom products?

I absolutely love the form and function of the classic bloom planners! They’re compact yet so spacious to fill with all my to-do lists and ideas. I also love the planning pads, which make tackling your week so much easier and fun. To top it off, the fresh bright colors of the products make you want to get your day going!
